winter woollies

As the colder weather approaches I have started knitting for the family. 

First a couple of cardigans for Jesse. 

He really suits strong bright colours so I chose a purple multi yarn and a green multi yarn

He also is into owls. His favourite bedtime snuggle is an owl so I made a hat into a  owl.

Summer shorts

If we ever do get a summer....or will that be a warm autumn.... I will need another pair of shorts.

Following on from the success of my previous pair I chose oshgosh denim from Dots n Stripes in green.

The pattern is ancient, one from the 80s that I used to regularly make.

I have tweaked it a bit and instead of side pockets added back patch pockets.

I love the material which gets softer with every wash.

Simple to make and comfy to wear.

My grandson Joel adores his Babu (grandad) and has often asked for matching cardigans. 

This time I went for a matching summer shirt. 

The African print is so bright and cheerful and reminds Babu of his time working in Africa which was very happy.

When I showed my grandson he was quite speechless but his face was beaming.

They will look incredible together this summer 

summer sewing 2023

In the depths of winter my local craft shop Calico Laine launched a bright and cheerful range of African themed fabrics. 

As Mike has spent many months working in Africa over the last 15 years and adores the culture especially the bright clothes  I couldn't resist creating a summer shirt for him.

This abstract pattern in turquoise,  browns and oranges is a delight 

It's a medium weight smooth cotton which sewed up very well 

I used my overlocker for the main seams and my standard machine for the rest.

It took about 10 hours total sewing time.

The buttons are a rather subtle mother of pearl in a rusty brown.

Cosy Jacket

A warm shawl collared jacket in fisherman's rib with a square bobble hat to match.

Yarn is Stylecraft Bellissima shade purple passion with a touch of mustard to contrast. 

The pattern is King Cole 4121 but I altered the texture for the cardigan.

Up up and away

My favourite fabric shop is Dots n Stripes run by Nicole who specialises in unusual prints often from Europe.

I bought a piece of waffle Cotton Jersey with the most delightful print of hot air balloons.

A birthday bear

When I posted pictures of Jesse's bear my sister non too subtly hinted she would like one for her upcoming 60th birthday. So here he is. 

The birthday is Christmas eve so although I've written about the bear 🐻  in November I won't post until the new year!
